A Note from Danielle
Hello! I am Danielle Hummel and I recently started working at ElderHealth & Living as the Sustainable Food Services Coordinator. Prior to this job, I worked as a Community Food Organizer at FOOD for Lane County through AmeriCorps/R.A.R.E, and before that I was a Head Cook in the Berkeley Student Cooperatives for three years. Being somewhat new to Oregon from California, I have recently discovered my passions for gardening, biking, and rock climbing.
Here at EHL, I am tasked with making our food services more sustainable. In the long term, we would like to create four different cyclical menus, one for each season, and increase our purchasing from local vendors. We are taking baby steps in that direction. We have set up a Harvest of the Month program, which features one fruit or vegetable per month that is purchased locally and integrated into the menu. In addition to coordinating the food services as they exist currently, I am also in the process of interviewing Resident Coordinators, evaluating each meal, and searching for local food distributors. I’m happy to be joining the EHL team and excited to feed our residents delicious food!
For anyone who wants to be involved in this process please do not hesitate to contact me. Call the front office at 541-747-4858 and ask to speak with Danielle Hummel.
